Abstract
This thesis examined what characteristics a transitive verb with a thing as an object of action has in giving and receiving constructions in terms of giving and receiving and the voice by analyzing examples like novels etc. The result showed that the giving and receiving construction of a transitive verb construction with a thing as an object has a new person who doesn’t exist in the original construction. As a transitive verb construction with a thing as an object is a construction only having a subject person of an action, it doesn’t have a person as an object. However, when such construction turns into a giving and receiving construction, a person who benefits as the result of the action of a subject person should appear in the construction. The person is indicated using 「ニ」 like 「ノタメニ」, and using 「ガ」 in a receiving voice. The reason why a person who benefits is indicated like 「ノタメニ」 in a giving voice(授與態) is that the action of a subject person is an indirective action for the object of the action who benefits rather than a directive action to the object of the action. In addition, a person who is indicated using 「ga」 in a receiving voice(受益態) is a person who benefits as the result of an action of a person by making the person indicated using 「ni」 or 「wo yonde」 and 「wo tanonde」 execute the action. Furthermore, the result of examining the characteristic of the voice of a transitive verb with a thing as an object showed that a transitive verb construction with a thing as an object has a structure similar to a causative voice in that the transitive verb construction with a thing as an object has a [derivative] structure that a person who doesn’t exist in the original construction is added to new constructions.
