Abstract
Teachers assess students' learning by giving mid-term and final examination. Formal and summative way of assessment was used to evaluate product rather than learning process. In this paper, I tried to discuss alternative assessment which can be used in the classroom whenever the convenient time is available. The purpose of alternative assessment is not to grade students but rather to help them to be better learners. Learner-centered or humanistic assessment is as important as teaching English effectively. Students may perform better when they feel comfortable in the learning process. Assessing students' learning outcomes leads to the long-term professional development process. Teachers will achieve professional development by investigating students' learning process in the classroom. In the further research, it is recommended to discuss students' responses using different types of alternative assessment.(Howon University)
