제주방언 단모음과 현대국어 단모음의 음향 분석 비교

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze acoustic qualities of vowels of Jeju dialect spoken by 8 speakers in their 70-80s., and to compare them with those of Korean vowels, and examines similarities and differences between the two vowel systems. The comparison of the vowel formant frequencies between them shows that the 1st formant frequency decreases as the speakers go from low vowels to high vowels. The 2nd formant frequency increases as the speakers move from back vowels to front vowels. The progression from unrounded vowels to rounded ones produces a gradual reduction in the frequency of F2. However, this shows the clear distinction between /e/ and /æ/ in Jeju dialect, while not in Korean. The clear distinction of /ɔ/(known as alea a 'below a') and /o/ is also found among speakers of Jeju dialect, even though /ɔ / is lost in Korean long time ago. Thus, Jeju dialect has 9 vowels, while Korean has 7 vowels. (Cheju National University)
