제주방언의 구개음화와 이중모음의 변화

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to survey the changes of diphthongs before and after the diachronic palatalization in the Cheju dialect. To achieve the purpose, this study compares the mordern Cheju dialect forms with those of the central dialect in the 15th∼17th century. As a result, this study concludes as follows. (1) the changes falling diphthongs *◎j>*i­j>i *i­>*i­j>i *i­j>i *∂j>*e>i *oj>*uj>wi>i *uj>*wi>i (2) the changes of rising diphthongs *jV>V *j∂>*je>e>i The order and cause of the changes, however, cannot be assumed by means of the method in this study. These will be made up for by the comparison with other dialect forms and the organic consideraticn of the phonological system and processes in the Cheju dialect.
