In this paper, I propose a semantic generalization for the distribution of two types of argument NPIs in Korean: amwuto NPIs and wh-word NPIs. It will be shown that downward entailment (Ladusaw 1980 1982), although a useful semantic notion for various linguistic phenomena, cannot offer a satisfactory account for the distribution of the two types of argument NPIs. As an alternative, I adopt the notion of veridicality (Zwarts 1995, Giannakidou 1998) and suggest that it can give a more empirically satisfactory account for these NPIs. An interesting asymmetry of locality will be shown to emerge between the two types of NPIs, which I suggest has to do with the fact that wh-word NPIs, unlike amwuto NPIs, are indefinites that can be construed long distance bound by the licensers.
