영한 번역에서 긍정문의 부정문으로의 번역양상

이 연구의 목적은 영어 긍정문이 한국어 부정문으로 번역되는 패턴을 조사하고 이를 분석한 것이다. 예를 들어, 영어에서 "difficult"이라는 형용사가 한국어로 "not easy"로 번역되는 경우에서 보듯이 한국어로 번역하면 부정적인 단어가 삽입되는 경우가 있다. 본 연구는 영어-한국어 병렬 코퍼스를 통해 한국어 번역에 부정적인 요소가 추가된 것을 네 가지로 분류하고 분석하여 실시하였다. 첫째, 의미상 주어의 의지에 반대되는 경우에 상태유지동사가 주어의 반의지를 드러내기 위해서 부정어가 삽입된 것을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 등급어 형용사의 번역에 부정어를 사용하면 화자의 의도를 완곡하게 드러낼 수가 있어 의미희석의 효과가 있다는 점 때문에 부정어가 추가되는 것을 보았다. 셋째, 출발어에 이미 부정의 의미를 내포하고 있는 동사나 전치사 그리고 제한적인 의미를 가진 부사에 부정어가 추가되어 번역되는 경우를 살펴보았다. 마지막으로, 부정어가 추가되는 경우로, 한국어의 결과중심적인 표현을 선호하는 경향이 번역에 반영되는 과정에서 부정어가 추가된 경우와 함축된 원문의 내용을 부연설명하기 위해, 그리고 의미전달을 분명히 하는 과정에서 중복된 표현을 추가하여 부정어가 삽입된 경우로 나눠볼 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the translation patterns of affirmative English sentences into negative Korean sentences. In this way, negative words are inserted when translated into Korean. This study was conducted by classifying and analyzing the addition of negatives to English-Korean translation into 4 types of English-Korean parallel corpus. First, when stative verbs are translated, negatives can be found inserted in the sentence to reveal the opposite of the will of the subject. Second, negative words are inserted when translating gradable adjectives in English into Korean to reveal the speaker's intentions in a euphemistic way through the effect of semantic dilution. Third, not only verbs or prepositions that already imply negation but adverbs with limited meaning in the source language are translated with negatives. Lastly, characteristics of result-oriented Korean language, more specific explanation of semantic implication, and clarification of the main meaning lead to the insertion of the negatives in the process of translating.
