초록

Since it has been pointed out that the EPP, originally defined to require that all clauses should have a subject, is stipulatory in nature, ceaseless attempts have been made to derive the EPP from some independent principles and even to remove the EPP altogether from the grammar. This paper proposes an EPP-less analysis for successive cyclic movement by elaborating the analysis proposed in Bošković (2007). After reviewing some widely known problems of the current EPP-driven movement analysis, this paper points out both theoretical and empirical problems of the EPP-less analysis by Bošković. To resolve the problems of both the EPP-driven and the EPP-less analysis, this paper suggests a modified version of Bošković's analysis.
