Abstract

The aim of the study investigate the effects of Balance trainer training on muscle strength of ankle joint and balance ability in chronic stroke patients. Twenty participants with chronic stroke were recruited in two groups: BTT group(balance trainer training received group) and control group(ankle muscle strengthening exercise received group). Each intervention was applied for 30 minutes, 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Biodex was used to assess muscle strength and balance ability. Both groups showed significant improvements of plantarflexors and dorsiflexors, and balance ability(p<.05). Especially, BTT group showed significant improvements on muscle strength and balance ability than control group(p<.05). The results suggested that balance trainer training is effective to improve muscle strength of ankle joint and balance ability in stroke patients. Thus, balance trainer training will be used in the control of muscle strength and balance function in stroke patients in clinics.
