Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze association between level of participation in Physical Activity (PA) by people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and self-rated health (SRH). The subjects were 330 adults (over 19 years of age) with SCI through Korea Spinal Cord Injury Associations. We performed a logistic regression analysis to calculated Odds Ratio (OR) and Confidence Interval (CI) after adjustments household income, marital status, education, and chronic disease. The levels of statistical significance were set at p<.05. As a result of analysis, the groups that participate in PA more often showed significantly higher assessment of SRH compared to the non-participant group, but the frequency of 4 or more times a week was not statistically significant. In case of OR value, it was 2.996 (95% CI=1.087-8.260) when the frequency of par ticipation was once a week, 3.036 (95% CI=1.100-8.382) when the frequency of participation was twice a week, 3.205 (95% CI=1.136-9.038) when the frequency of participation was three times a week. The assessment of self-rated health was significantly higher with longer duration of participation and OR value was 1.009 (95% CI=1.002-1.016). Participating time was not statistically significant. Therefore, the appropriate frequency of participation in PA to improve assessment of SRH of people with SCI was between 1 and 3 times a week and a longer duration of participation showed better results.
