장애 혹은 장애위험 유아를 위한 긍정적인 행동지원의 고찰

초록

많은 연구들은 학령기 장애아동들을 대상으로 하는 긍정적인 행동지원 (Positive Behavior Support, PBS)의 수행에 초점을 두고 있다. 하지만 학령 전 장애 혹은 장애위험 아동들을 대상으로 하는 긍정적인 행동지원의 수행에 관한 연구는 국내외 문헌들을 볼 때 미흡한 실정이다. 아동의 행동문제 발생을 예방할 뿐만 아니라, 현존하는 행동문제가 심해지고 만성적이 되는 것을 막기 위해서는 학령 전부터 긍정적인 행동지원을 수행하여야 할 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 학령 전 장애 혹은 장애위험 유아들의 문제행동을 다루기 위해서 교사가 실행할 수 있는 긍정적인 행동지원의 방법을 알아보고자 하였다.

Abstract

Early intervention/early childhood special education(EI/ECSE) programs should be equipped to teach and support appropriate social behavior in young children with disabilities or at risk. Recently, many professionals are working to establish systems of positive behavior support(PBS) earlier, before children enter elementary school in order to prevent and reduce challenging behaviors as well as to maintain and generalize the changed behaviors. The present study provided specific guidelines and examples of PBS for preschoolers. First, a team should be established to implement program-wide PBS. Second, program-wide PBS team should define, teach, and support behavior expectations. Third, program-wide PBS team should use data to make decisions. In addition, program-wide PBS team should provide individualized supports for children who are showing intensive/chronic problem behaviors. To successfully implement positive behavior support system in preschools, program-wide universal PBS as well as small-group or individualized PBS must be implemented together.
