북한의 고전문학교육 - 고급중학교 『국어문학』 1, 2, 3을 중심으로

같은 민족으로서 천 년간 하나의 국가로 지내왔던 우리 민족이 남한과 북한이라는 두 나라로 나뉜 채 70년이 넘는 세월이 지나면서 두 나라의 교육뿐 아니라 언어와 문화의 괴리가 심해지고 있다. 이런 상황에서 모국어교육을 어떻게 수행하고 있는지를 연구하는 것은 상대를 이해하기 위한 방법이면서 미래의 하나된 나라가 되었을 때를 대비할 수 있는 방안이다. 그래서 본 고에서는 남한과 북한이 분리되기 이전의 문학 작품을 현재 북한 고등학교에서 어떻게 교육하는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 북한의 고전문학 교육에서 발견한 특징은 문학의 여러 갈래 중에서 특히 서사 갈래를 중시하는 경향이 있다는 점이며, 시대적으로는 조선 시대의 문학 작품을 많이 수록하고 있고, 표기 방식에 있어서는 한자를 거의 사용하지 않고 한글 위주로 표기하고 있음을 발견하였다. 내용적으로는 현재 공산주의 국가의 정당성을 내세우기 위해 과거 봉건시대의 생활방식을 비판하고 부정하려는 경향이 강하였으며, 개인보다는 집단의 이념과 존재를 더욱 중요하게 여겨서 조국과 민족에 대한 관심과 애정을 강화하려는 데에 목적을 두고 있음을 확인하였다. 북한의 고등학교에서 수행되는 국어교육의 양상을 이해함으로써 양 국민의 의식의 차이를 수용하고 이해하는 단서를 찾을 수 있고, 미래에 당면할 통일을 맞이하면 어떻게 국어교육을 설계하고 수행해야 할지에 대한 방안을 모색할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
More than 70 years has passed since Korea was divided into two countries, South and North Korea, and the gap between language and culture of the two countries has widened. Under these circumstances, studying how the education regarding the mother tongue is being conducted is a way to understand the other party and prepare for a time when the two countries become unified as one. Therefore, the study looked at how the literature before the separation of South and North Korea is being taught at high schools in North Korea. The study learned that, in the classic literature education in North Korea, the narrative genre is especially important, and it deals with a lot of works created during the Joseon Dynasty, and in terms of writing style, Hangeul is mainly used. In terms of content, the government is strongly inclined to criticize and deny the life and ideology of feudal times in order to assert the legitimacy of communism, and the goal was to strengthen the interest and affection for the country and its people by putting more importance on the ideology and survival of the group as whole rather than on individuals.
