Abstract
This study concerns the constraints of Sonnets by Shakespeare. Sonnets were written in iambic pentameter. So a syllable on the poetic line corresponds to the metrical position. In fixed meter, the metrical pattern doesn't always match the linguistic stress on the lines. These mismatches are found differently among the poems, including Sonnets. For the peak mismatched with a weak metrical position, I suggest LSC, PCPP and CGC according to prosodic units. S]D≥I and I≤D[W are proposed for the match between the prosodic unit and the metrical position. The relation between the linguistic stress and the metrical position is formed in the following rank: LSC 》 S]D≥ I , CGC, PCPP 》 I≤D[W 》 *Peaks.
