Abstract
Hyun-Jin SeoDoes the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal have any impact on the 2000 presidential election? While many scholars are giving attention to the effect of Clinton- Lewinsky Scandal on campaigning, this study examines the effects of negative evaluations of Clinton's personal traits on voter choice empirically by using the 2000 American presidential election data. Specifically it is tested that people who evaluate more negatively Clinton's character is more likely to vote for republican candidate George W. Bush instead of democratic candidate Al Gore. As a result of analysis, it is found that negative evaluations on morality, honesty and careness are more likely to encourage voting for George W. Bush, while evaluations on other personal characters such as touch, knowledge, intelligence, and leadership don't have any influence on it. Therefore, the findings show that there are some evidences for the direct effect of the Clinton's character evaluations on voter choice.
