초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of flight attendants' emotional labor strategy(surface acting, deep acting) on job performance and life satisfaction. It is reported that there are 11 million individuals whose work involves emotional labor in varying extents. Since emotional laborers consume surprising amounts of emotion, this state of affairs can cause not only low motivation on their job duties but also slow improvement in their fields. The relationship between emotional labor and job performance and life satisfaction has been a very contested topic. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive and extensive research on the set subject. Therefore, the key of this study was to provide an in-depth analysis on such relationship. Data was obtained from a survey of 328 flight attendants in South Korea. The results were conclusive and unambiguous. Deep acting had only positive effect on job performance. Also, job performance enhanced life satisfaction. Further surface acting reduced life satisfaction. On the contrary, deep acting had both direct and indirect positive effects on life satisfaction through job performance. Suggestions for future study of emotional labor strategy in association with job performance and life satisfaction outcomes are discussed.
