Abstract

Resonance theory is the basic theory on which most of Chinese civilization is constructed. This paper targets on reestablishing the resonance theory by using Huainanzi's rule and investigating the way that Huainanzi's rule is performed. Huainanzi's rule is performed by acting non-actively. To act non-actively is to exert intentional action from the perspective of a fixed and limited ego. This type of rule is a political version of resonance. Resonance has stimulus and response. In resonance theory, different with epistemology, acceptance of stimulus and response is not divided. The natural resonance is disturbed by strong feelings, desire and prejudice. Therefore, Huainanzi insists to get rid of these disturbances. The heart, free from these disturbances, naturally has the ability of resonance. The sympathy of people with ruler means that the rule was already successfully conducted. And the people do not think that they have changed by rule.
