『회남자(淮南子)』의 생태학적 사유와 인격교육

이 논문은 절충적 입장에서 저술된 『회남자(淮南子)』의 상관적 사유와 현대의 생태학적 사유의 관계성을 살펴보고, 이를 토대로 형성된 『회남자』의 양생론과 성인론(聖人論)이 인격교육에 주는 의미를 찾아보았다. 사람다움을 지향하는 인격교육은 그 자체로 통합적이고 관계적 교육을 지향한다. 인격교육에서 요청되는 통합성과 관계성은 생태학적 사유에서 중시되는 개념이다. 『회남자』는 자연과 인간의 관계를 일방적이거나 어느 한 쪽으로 치우친 중심주의 입장이 아닌 감응과 상응의 입장에서 보고 있다. 인간과 인간의 관계도 마찬가지로 단절적이고 고립적인 관계가 아니라 상호 교류하는 관계로 본다. 자연과 인간과 사회는 단절되거나 고립된 것이 아니라 연결되어 있다. 『회남자』의 상관적이고 절충적인 관점은 생태적 사유와 유사하며, 자연과 인간, 인간과 사회관계에 대하여 이론과 실천 측면에서 인격교육에 많은 시사점을 준다. 『회남자』에 나타나는 이상적 인격은 성인(聖人)이다. 자연과 인간, 그리고 사회 속에서 통합적 인격을 구현한 존재이다. 이상적 경지에 도달하기 위해 성인은 도가적 방법과 유가적 방법 모두를 사용하며, 자연과 인간과 사회의 합일을 추구한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to search for the meaning of character education through the Huainanzi, a correlative and eclectic mode of thought. The character (人格) itself contains integrated aspects. Character education calls for something like ecological, correlative, and synthetic thinking. In Huainanzi, there are factors satisfying the needs of character education. Ecological thinking representing interconnectedness with nature and human beings is similar to correlative thinking. Correlative thinking is based on making a connection between entities and phenomena. Mutual correspondence (感應) among things and events involves the interrelatedness of the cosmos and human beings. Ecological and correlative thinking are interrelated. Sages are able to see the world in an interrelated, the most ideal way of seeing. Sages are not only insightful with respect to human affairs, but also perceptive about all the things in the world. They can shut down their senses and preserve their jing (精) and shen (神), they perceive the world better than others. They can preserve their body (形), energy (氣), and spirit (神) well, so the sage can be as a coherent whole. In order to reach the ideal state, integrated character education has to become a synthetic education including the various aspects of human beings and nature.
