존 롤즈의 정의론과 성경적 정의관

이 논문은 성경적 세계관이 존 롤즈의 정의의 두 원칙과 중첩적 합의를 이룰 수 있음을 옹호하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 롤즈의 정의론은 자유 우선성 원칙, 공정한 기회 균등의 원칙 그리고 차등 원칙으로 요약된다. 자유 우선성 원칙에서 필자는 신앙의 자유 및 성경에 근거한 인생 계획의 영위에는 롤즈가 주장하는 기본적 자유의 평등한 분배가 필수적임을 보여줄 것이다. ‘창조-타락-구속’이라는 성경적 세계관에 비추어 볼 때 인간은 평등하기에 기독교인은 공정한 기회 균등의 원칙에 대해서도 합의할 수밖에 없다. 그리고 모세의 율법이나 예수의 가르침에 함의되어 있는 사회적 약자 내지 지극히 작은 자에 대한 우선적인 배려는 최소 수혜자 우선이라는 롤즈의 차등 원칙을 적극 지지한다. 무엇보다 차등 원칙의 근거가 되는 천부적 자산의 도덕적 임의성 주장은 재능을 하나님의 선물로 간주하는 성경의 가르침과 정확하게 중첩될 뿐만 아니라 기독교의 청지기직 윤리와도 상통한다고 하겠다. 이런 의미에서 롤즈의 정의론은 성경적 정의관의 세속화라 말할 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to defend that the biblical worldview can achieve an overlapping consensus over two principles of justice of John Rawls. Rawls' conception of justice boils down to the ‘equal liberty’ principle, the principle of fair opportunity and the difference principle. As for the ‘equal liberty’ principle, I will show that the equal distribution of basic liberties, which Rawls argues, is essential for the freedom of faith and the leading of a Bible-based life plan. In light of the biblical worldview of “Creation-Corruption-Salvation,” human beings are equal, so Christians will have no choice but to agree on the principle of fair opportunity. And the preferential care for the socially disadvantaged in laws of Moses or the infinitesimal in the teachings of Jesus justifies Rawls' difference principle that stresses the priority of the least advantaged. Above all, the moral arbitrariness argument of natural assets, which is the basis of the difference principle, is not exactly overlaps with the Bible's teachings of considering talent as a gift of God, but also is in line with Christian ‘steward ethics’. In this sense, Rawls' theory of justice can be said to be the secularization of the biblical conception of justice.
