Abstract
Christians believe that God governs the world through intermediary causes, in relation to events that occurred after God had created the world in six days. However, Muslims believe that God directly created all events that occurred after the creation of the world in six days. This shows that God has the ability to completely rule the world, unlike other false gods. Then, why do they have the idea of God ruling the world which is formed through such direct creation? I am going to examine how orthodox Muslims and philosopher Muslims changed Greek metaphysics into their own philosophical theology in the 9th century. We will examine the Muslim literature related to the 9th and 10th centuries and draw eight model theories regarding the creation of God. Eight model theories discuss the role which God plays in the duration and destruction of substance and accidents. The first argument is that there is no real duration and destruction of bodies. God creates duration in the bodies so that bodies endure or perish. The second argument is the theory that there is a real duration and destruction of bodies. God did not create the existence of bodies and then the duration of them. While God created the existence of bodies, he also created duration. The third argument is that God created the actual duration of the existence of bodies. But the destruction of the bodies is not annihilation because God created it. On the contrary, as the opposite of the existence arises, the duration disappears. These eight theories deal with various aspects related to the duration and destruction of bodies. However, the common element of all explains that God's direct creation is involved in the duration and destruction of bodies.
