馮友蘭은 전통적인 宋明理學과 신실재론(neo-realism)을 결합시켜 현대 중국철학의 새로운 경향을 주도했다. 특히 程朱學의 전통적 가치를 서양철학의 실증주의적 논리에 접목시키면서 ‘민족’과 ‘현대화’에 대한 숙고를 더해갔다. 이 과정에서 馮友蘭의 철학이 논리적 모순을 가지고 있다거나 지나치게 민족주의적이라는 문제는 이미 심도 있는 논의가 진행되어 왔다. 본고는 이러한 논의를 문제점으로만 보지 않았으며, 서구문명과의 충돌 및 민족적 혼란이라는 시대적 특수성에 기인한 것이라고 파악하였다. 본 고는 馮友蘭에 대한 비판적 사고를 수용하면서, 철학적 합리성과 민족주의적 사고의 절충을 시도하고자 했다. 즉 격변기에 시대성을 숙고한 한 지식인의 ‘古典敎化思想’은 전통적 중국철학의 자존심을 잃지 않으면서 동시에 서구의 현대화를 취할 수 있는 돌파구였던 것이다.현대사회의 맹점이라고 할 수 있는 도덕성 상실과 사회적 성찰에 유기적으로 접근했던 ‘古典敎化思想’은 전통문화의 가치와 현대화의 필요성을 견지한 馮友蘭의 新理學을 연구하는 데 중요한 실마리가 될 것이다.
Abstract
This paper is focused on the problem of legitimacy of "Chinese philosophy". Modern research tradition of Chinese philosophy produced by Hu Shi, Feng You-lan etc. is very different from classical hermeneutics in ancient China. It means that a paradigm revolution or a methodological revolution takes place in the research filed of ancient cultural thought. In hermeneutic sense, Chinese philosophy comes into being just through comparing with Western Philosophy. As a new hermeneutic project of Chinese traditional classics, modern Chinese philosophy is very important to our spiritual lives. Firstly, it is an authentic response to our historical situation and is claimed by our historical task. In the process of unequal communication with the Western countries, the need for the Western recognition is the result of our military failures and the loss of our cultural confidence. Modern Chinese philosophy is also a part of the struggle for recognition. Secondly, it is very important for us to construct Cultural China under the rationality of cultural pluralism.
