본 연구는 고대 그리스 사회에서 등장한 신화와 철학적 사유가 일반적으로 알려진 바와 달리 서로 단절된 것이 아니라, 오히려 양자 사이에는 내용적 구성과 궁극적 지향점에서 쉽게 부인할 수 없는 연결고리가 존재하며, 특히 신화와 철학 모두 고대 그리스 문화가 추구했던 최상의 가치인 다원성과 개방성, 나아가서 다양성을 전제로 한 사회 통합 기능을 지속적으로 수행하였음을 보이고자 한다. 고대 그리스 문화에서 신화는 인간과 그를 둘러싼 자연세계의 특성을 신비로운 방식으로 묘사하고자 했다면, 철학은 동일한 주제를 좀 더 합리적이고 설득력을 갖춘 체계로 정리하여 설명하고 있다는 표면상의 차이에도 불구하고, 궁극적으로 양자는 사실상 공통적인 가치를 추구하고 있다는 것이다. 신화와 철학적 사유를 매개로 한 의사소통 전반에 대한 그리스인들의 탐구와 숙고는 서양지성사에서 이성적인 사고방식을 발전시키고, 추상적이면서도 분석적인 담론문화를 형성하는 중요한 계기로 작용하였다. 고대 그리스 문화에서 의사소통이 사람들 사이의 동일한 가치형성에 어떤 역할을 수행해 왔으며 그 현재적 의의는 무엇인지를, 신화와 철학 각각의 특성 및 양자 사이의 연속성에 대한 다원적인 고찰을 매개로 살펴보는 작업은 현대를 살아가는 우리에게도 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 이 탐구과정을 통해서 일차적으로는 그동안 단편적으로만 알려져 있던 신화와 철학 사이의 사유지평 상의 연속성이 좀 더 명확히 밝혀질 것이며, 나아가 이와 같은 연속성이 결국 고대 그리스인들 사이에서 시대를 초월한 동일한 가치관과 공동체의식을 형성하는데 결정적인 역할을 수행하였음이 드러날 것이기 때문이다. 이러한 고찰을 통해서 우리는, 서로간의 차이를 극단적으로 강조하면서도 결국은 획일적인 사고방식을 탈피하지 못하고 있는 현대사회에서 가장 필요한 것은, 고대 그리스인들이 모범적으로 실천한 바 있듯이, 가치공유를 통한 공동체의식 확보 내지는 적어도 한 사회를 형성하고 유지하는데 필요한 바람직한 가치의식을 형성할 수 있는 열린 공간을 마련하는 것이라는 결론에 도달할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This research investigated true meaning and roll of mythos which was widely performed by the citizens of polis in Greece, and tried to show that it meant coexistence and co-ownership. As a result, (1) mythos and it’s communicative roll was argued to originate from philosophical thinking and (2) true meaning of communication was displayed as well. What's more, (3) the research also indicated that Korean society which ran up to the extreme polarization of interest relationship could make real understanding of communication so that it could realize the philosophical proposition of unification rather than oppositeness and disintegration. This research ensured the construction of Humanities research and positive application of applied science through comprehensive research of communication. Comprehensive investigation of mythos and communication through it became a significant opportunity to develop reasonable world outlook and to form an abstract and analytic communicative culture in the western mentality history. Together with the research result, we could make positive exploration to the co-ownership of the new values and coexistence with others required by the modern society on the basis of reasonable world view which was based upon effective communication and analytic use of the languages.
