초록

사진에 관한 철학적 탐구는 주로 미학이나 예술철학의 영역에서 이루어졌다. 하지만 사진철학의 범위는 이런 영역 바깥에 미친다. 이를 보이기 위해서 첫째로 철학의 단일성 주장을 거부하고 철학의 분류기준에 대한 반성을 하면 충분하다. 또 한편으로 사진 실재론 논의를 예로 삼아서 논지를 강화할 것이다. 사진 실재론은 사진에 관련된 다른 주제들과 마찬가지로 예술철학이나 미학의 맥락에서 주로 논의된다. 이는 사진에 대해서 진지한 관심을 갖는 사람들이 주로 사진의 예술적 측면에 관심을 갖는 데서 비롯된다. 이런 실제적 고려에서 사진 실재론 논의는 예술철학이나 미학의 논란거리이다. 하지만 이론적 견지에서 살펴보면 사진 실재론 논쟁은 보다 광범한 철학적 논의의 영지에 관련되어 있다. 최근의 사진 실재론 가운데 가장 강한 형태는 왈턴의 투명성 논제이다. 또한 이는 가장 활발하게 논의되고 있는 사진철학의 논란거리이기도 하다. 왈턴의 논제로 표현된 사진 실재론 관련 논의는 사진철학이 형이상학, 인식론 등 철학의 중요 분야를 아우르는 광범하고 풍부한 범위를 갖고 있다는 본고의 취지를 강화시켜 줄 것이다.

Abstract

Modern life after photograph is immensely changed. For this reason, photograph deserves attracting philosopher's attention. Philosophers who do their job in aesthetics or philosophy of art mainly concern about the philosophical issues of photograph. But the subjects in philosophy of photograph are not restricted within the territory of aesthetics or philosophy of art. The area of this philosophical discipline is very rich enough. This is our main point here. We will show this point by rejecting a peculiar assumption about the nature of philosophy itself, and contrary to this insisting philosophical propositions isn't unitary. Some of them are descriptive, another normative (or substantive), the others analytical. This feature would be the same in philosophy of photograph. Also to show our main point, we take an example of a debate in philosophy of photograph. The photographic realism debate between realist and anti-realist serve as an illustration. A recent hero of photographic realism is Kendall Walton, so we are discuss his transparency thesis to the extend that this discussion can illuminate our main claim.
