Abstract
A new debate on the origin of morality has been accelerating through the advent of sociobiology. Sociobiology argues that all forms of life as a natural phenomenon, including human beings, are created and developed through evolution. This includes human morality. From this perspective, the goal of human action is to maximize genetic adaptability. Evolutionary psychology emerges based on this social biology. While the former is based on genetic characteristics of human behavior, the latter is based on the notion of evolution not only at the gene but also at the cultural level. Thus, a gene-culture coevolution is made that focuses on the interaction of genes and culture. According to M. Tomasello's Evolutionary Psychology, the human brain is born with evolutionary empathy and supportive tendencies through evolution, and this empathy builds a moral sense of 'we'. However, I accept Yuval Hararis’s view of history. He argues that the reason which causes human beings to have moral normality is not an altruistic gene which can relate to others, nor an interaction of genes and the natural environment, but a religious narrative. Religious mythology makes millions of people who are totally unfamiliar each other work together for a certain purpose every day. Most of the human moral concepts (justice, liberty, equality, human rights, etc.) are made by these religious narratives. And now all legal systems and moral rates are based on these religious concepts. The status that human beings are moral beings is not given automatically by human beings themselves. It is a religious narrative that can control and motivate human selfish desires and altruistic devotion. In this paper, I examine how evolutionary psychology emerges and what its limits are. And as a way to overcome this, religious narrative is presented as a phenomenological life world.
