세계시민사회의 이론적 고찰: 자유주의적, 맑스적, 구성주의적 사회학적관점을 중심으로

초록

민주주의로의 전환과 공고화 과정에 있어 중요한 역할을 수행하여온 시민사회에 대한 논의는 최근 들어 세계화라는 초국가적 현상과 맞물려 세계시민사회라는 전지구적 시민공동체에 대한 관심으로 급속히 확장되고 있다. 세계시민사회란 주권국가에 속한 정치사회와 시민사회에 대비되는 영역으로서 단일 국가의 범주를 넘어 초국가적인 흐름 속으로 그 외연을 확대 시키는 것을 말한다. 특히 세계시민사회는 오늘날 세계화 속에서 탄생한 글로벌 거버넌스와 강화되는 국제기구의 주요행위자들을 우리가 선출하지 않는다는 대표성의 부재에서 기인하는 정당성과 신뢰성의 문제를 해결할 수 있는 대안으로서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 세계시민사회를 이해할 수 있는 기존의 이론적 논의들을 자유주의적,맑스적, 사회학적, 구성주의적 등의 네 가지 접근법을 적용하여 세계시민사회의 역할을 분석하고 나아가 그 역할의 이해를 통하여 국민국가 위상의강화 또는 약화라는 차원에서 논의를 전개하고 있다.

Abstract

The discussion on important role of civil society in democratic transition and consolidation of single nation has extended to global civil community level with the emergence of globalization. Since global civil society is located in international level it is contrast to political and civil society, located in single nation. It is often, treated as an alternative solution to the legitimacy and accountability problems of global governance and international organization because of the lack of public representation. This paper deals with the role of global civil society based on four different approaches such as liberalism, Marxian, constructivism, and sociological tradition to provide systematic and analytic framework and later, discuss the fact whether the role of global civil society strengthens or weakens the position of nation-state through four different approaches.
