대학의 직접창업에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구

본 연구는 우리나라 대학이나 그 기관들이 보유 지식을 활용하여 직접 창업한 실적 및 그 창업기업들의 성과(매출액)에 영향을 미치는 요인을, 대학의 산학협력조직과 제도, 대학의 연구 및 사업화자금 규모, 대학 보유 지식자산의 규모, 그리고 지역의 경제적 특성과 대학 구성원의 창업 실적 등을 중심으로 분석하였다. 대학의 자원이나 창업 관련 실적 등은 대학알리미 정보를 활용하고, 대학의 명성 및 대학 외부 자원 등은 관련 기관들의 자료를 활용하여, 대학알리미에 창업 실적을 공시한 147개 대학에 대하여 분석하였다. 자료의 분석 결과, 대학이 보유하는 특허 자산의 규모는 대학의 직접창업 수에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤지만, 그 창업기업의 매출액에 대한 영향은 유의하지 않았다. 또한, 대학의 연구개발자금 규모는 직접창업수에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않은 반면, 창업기업의 매출액에는 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤고, 정부의 대학창업지원사업 중 산학협력선도대학사업은 직접창업수에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 준데 반해, 창업선도대학사업은 창업기업의 매출액에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 한편, 교수의 창업휴직 허용기간은 직접창업기업의 매출액 증가에 유의하게 긍정적 영향을 주었는데, 이는 대학의 직접창업 활동과 교수의 창업휴직이 서로 보완관계에 있기 때문으로 보인다. 본 연구 결과는 기업가적인 대학을 지향하는 대학들과 기술창업 활성화를 추진하는 정부에, 교수창업 등과 구분하여 대학의 직접 창업 활성화에 영향을 미치는 요인을 도출하여 제공함으로써, 대학 보유 지식자산의 사업화 촉진을 위한 자원 공급이나 제도 개선방안에 대한 시시점을 제공한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect Universities’ institutional startups and their performance in Korea. We included 5 categories of factors: University’s industrial cooperation system, its amount of resources for research and commercialization, its amount of intellectual properties, the number of professor and student startups, and the regional economic factors. We analyzed 157 Universities, using Korean government’s Academyinfo database, and additional data for University ranking and government’s projects for University startups. Our analysis shows that, first of all, Universities’ amounts of patents give a positive impact on their institutional startups statistically significantly, but not on their performance, while their amounts of fund for commercialization affects their number of institutional startups, and their amounts of research fund affects the startups’ performance, significantly positively. In addition, professors’ maximum years’ of absence for startup activities provide a positive impact on University’s institutional startups’ performance, while University’s reputation doesn’t. The result implies that Universities and government need to focus on supporting research and patenting activities, providing commercialization funds, and encouraging to build a more startup-friendly system for more active startups to commercialize their intellectual properties.
