문화대혁명의 종결 이후, 중국은 상당한 이데올로기적 충격을 겪었고 그러한 충격은 오늘날까지도 이어지고 있다. 그러한 이데올로기적 위기의 맥락에 있어 가장 주목할 만한 것은 '유가'의 부활이다. 주지하듯 20세기가 시작될 무렵 '유가'는 중국 지식인들에 의해 구시대의 유물로 격하되었고 '유가'는 20세기 내내 비판과 폐기의 대상이었다. 하지만 21세기에 이른 오늘날 중국에서 '유가'에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있으며 이러한 추세 속에서 어떻게 사회주의와 유가를 결합할 수 있을 것인가라는 문제가 대두되고 있다. 본 논문은 잡지 <개방시대>에서 열린 논단 '유가와 사회주의'를 통해 중국의 지식인들이 어떻게 '유가'와 '사회주의' 사이의 관계를 설정하고 있는지 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 이론적 검토를 통해 '정체'와 '정체성'이라는 차원에서 양자간의 관계를 살펴볼 것이다.
Abstract
After the end of the ‘Cultural Revolution’, China suffered a significant ideological shock, which continues to this day. In the context of such an ideological crisis, the most remarkable thing is the revival of ‘confucianism’. As is well known, at the beginning of the 20th century, ‘confucianism’ was downgraded to a product of the ‘old age’ by Chinese intellectuals, and ‘confucianism’ was the subject of criticism and abolition throughout the 20th century. However, in today’s 21st century China, interest in ‘confucianism’ is increasing, and in this trend, how to re-examine the relationship between ’socialism’ and ‘confucianism’ has emerged as a very sharp topic. This paper summarizes how Chinese intellectuals view the relationship between ‘confucianism’ and ‘socialism’ through a discussion held under the title of ‘confucianism and socialism’ in the magazine ‘Open Times’. Afterwards, through a theoretical review, the theoretical issues that build the relationship between ‘confucianism’ and ‘socialism’ are critically reviewed in terms of the relationship between ‘polity’ and ‘identity’.
