During Stalin’s regime, the Russian ballet <Swan Lake> and <Romeo and Juliet> had gone through the alterations of their endings from the original libretto. Analyzing the alleged reasons and ground of the alterations, this study looks at the dynamic interplay between ballet and the ideology in the Soviet ballet. Under the artistic subversion of political-ideological power, the Soviet ballet achieved to push its boundary of art and proved that art is stronger than politics and ideology.
