The characteristics of abstractionism are represented in 「Jewels」 as follows : thecondensed image of three different jewels are expressed by the music in relation to thecolors of the each jewels; the asymmetrical compositions of the floor plans areemphasized; folded and 'turn-in' movement, not typical classical ballet technique, areshown. In the point of view that Balanchine tried to visualize the music through thedance and Kandinsky to visualize the music through the painting, it is no doubt that「Jewels」 has been called the first full-length abstract ballet.
