본 연구는 Mnet의 2024년 TV 댄스 프로그램 〈스테이지 파이터〉를 대상으로, 경연 무용, 미디어 플랫폼, 감정 서사가 교차하는 지점에서 형성되는 남성 무용수의 재현 양상을 분석한다. 특히 본 프로그램에서 남성 무용수가 어떻게 서사화되고 대상화되며, 상품화된 콘텐츠로 재구성되는지를 고찰하였다. 〈스테이지 파이터〉는 남성 무용수의 신체적 특징과 감정 서사를 중심으로 캐릭터화하며, 이들을 콘텐츠형 인물로 구성한다. 또한 프로그램의 연출 논리에 따라 특정춤 장르와 캐릭터가 고정되며, 춤의 소비과정을 위한 장르 스테레오타입을 강화하는특징을 보여준다. 본 연구는 소비자 중심의 미디어 환경에서 무용의 예술성과 무용수의 정체성이 어떻게 구조화되는지를 밝히며, 비판적 무용 담론의 확장을 시도한다.
Abstract
This study investigates the representational strategies surrounding male dancers in the 2024 Mnet television dance survival program <Stage Fighter>. Focusing on the intersection of competitive dance, media plat- forms, and emotional narratives, the study explores how male dancers are narrativized, objectified, and reconstructed as commodified content within the media framework. The program constructs male dancer identities primarily through phys- ical attributes and emotionally charged storytelling, thereby shaping them into content-driven personas. Furthermore, the production logic of the show fixes particular dance genres and character types, reinforcing genre-based stereotypes that facilitate the consumption of dance as spectacle. By analyzing these dynamics, the study examines how the ar- tistic value of dance and the identities of dancers are systematically structured within a consumer-oriented media environment. This research ultimately contributes to expanding critical discourse on dance repre- sentation in contemporary media culture.
