Abstract
This study analyzes the contemporary dance work Silence through the theoretical framework of Roland Barthes’ Mythologies. By examining the work in terms of its denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings, the research investigates how contemporary dance constructs meaning within socio-cultural contexts and fulfills a broader social role. The analy- sis incorporates not only the choreographer-researcher’s interpretation but also perspectives from dance critics, thereby expanding the analytical horizon. Through this multidimensional approach, the study demon- strates that dance functions as more than a form of aesthetic expression —it can serve as a medium for social reflection and testimony. This at- tempt reconsiders the multifaceted value and function of contemporary dance from the perspective of the choreographer and proposes its poten- tial as a site for active social communication in contemporary society.
