Abstract
This study aimed to enhance the technical accuracy and alignment sta- bility of ballet pirouettes by developing a real-time correction and feed- back system based on a Spatio-Temporal Convolutional Neural Network (ST-CNN). To this end, video data of professional dancers and high-reso- lution online recordings were utilized to segment the pirouette into seven phases, and joint angles and rotational speed were quantitatively ana- lyzed based on coordinate tracking. The ST-CNN model was designed to evaluate differences from expert standards in real time and to provide feedback on joint alignment and rota- tional velocity. The experiment showed that dancers using the system dem- onstrated improved rotational stability and alignment accuracy, with rota- tional speed increasing from an average of 1350°/s to 1420°/s. In addition, er- rors in ankle and pelvic alignment during the turning phase were reduced, and the dancers became more aware of the impact of insufficient plié in the preparation phase on rotational outcomes through the feedback provided. This study suggests the potential of a cost-effective educational tool ca- pable of quantitative analysis and real-time feedback, and implies that such a system can contribute to the digital and data-driven transformation of ballet training when expanded to other turning and jumping techniques.
