Abstract

It is highly promising that the commercial shale resources development can be expanded to China having huge domestic shale resources, demands and capitals. In particular, China is one of interesting regions on which Korea have to focus, because of the geographical vicinity and close industrial relationships. In this study, it was tried to investigate geological characteristics and development status of South China shale basins including Sichuan basin where commercial developments are actively in progress. Concludingly, it has been analysed that Sichuan can be a good candidate in terms of reservoir and, completion quality and development conditions. Another representative shale fields in South China plate such as Yangtze platform, Jianghan and Subei basin show similar geologic characteristics of Sichuan, and have advantages due to the closer distance to major cities, and then can also be considered as potential shale plays in a future. However, owing to some serious disadvantages like the high structural complexities and high degree of formation depth make it harder to develop these fields than sichuan.
