초록
This paper assesses the soft power used by the Republic of Korea to enhance its relationship with ASEAN. Though the Korea-ASEAN relationship has been good, soft power has strengthened this relationship substantially. Although ASEAN member countries have a distinct and diverse range of ideologies, economic potentials, and cultural differences, the means used by Korea has helped to bridge these differences and create mutual understanding. This paper also explores the efficiency of Korean popular culture and how it provided opportunities for interaction between Korea and three ASEAN member states: Indonesia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Korea’s soft power has had high visibility due to government endorsement and media coverage to provide an effective and low-cost way to keep alive Korean-ASEAN relationships.
