Intraoperative radiotherapy with low-energy X-rays has potential advantages of high biological effects as well as moving flexibly. In addressing tumors of varying depths, there is a pressing need for adjustable spectral ranges and high emission intensities to achieve greater precision in radiotherapy. This study proposes the method using two kinds of characteristic X-rays to acquire energy-selective spectrum, then a magnetic-modulated X-ray tube with Zr and Ag target is designed. CST particle studio with finite element method is employed to optimize the structure and electron trajectory. The results show that electron with 50 keV is effectively modulated by magnetic field, leading to 5.7◦ deflection to bombard on the desired area, a focal spot with diameter of 1 mm is achieved. Furthermore, MCNP5 with Monte Carlo method is used to calculate the emission spectrum. The results show that the ideal thickness of Zr target is 6 μm, and 4 μm of Ag target. Then the spectrum when X-rays transmit through 1 cm spherical applicator is also evaluated. It demonstrates that the average energy is 21.6 keV when electron bombards on Zr target, and 23.8 keV for Ag target. Thus, this designed X-ray tube could effectively provide energy selective spectrum for Intraoperative radiotherapy.
