초등 예비교사가 인식한 체육 교사교육자 모델링의 유형과 정체성 발달에의 효과

초록

중등학교와 달리 초등학교는 대부분의 체육수업이 학급 담임교사에 의하여 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 체육의 가치와 의미 전수 속에서 전인교육을 실천해야 하는 초등교사의 정체성 확립은 교육대학교 체육 교사교육에서 가장 중요한 과제 중의 하나이다. 이러한 정체성 발달을 위한 교수․학습 방법으로서의 모델링은 교사교육에 있어서 중요한 학습 방법이지만 이에 관한 체계적인 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Feiman-Nemser(2008)의 ‘가르칠 수 있도록 배우기(learning to teach)’ 이론을 기반으로 하여 체육교사처럼 (1) 알기, (2) 생각하기 (3) 느끼기, (4) 행동하기로 체육 교사교육자 모델링 프로그램을 구성하여 교육대학교 교사교육에 적용하였다. 본 연구는 초등학교에서 체육을 가르쳐야 하는 학급 담임교사의 정체성 발달에 있어서 체육 교사교육자의 모델링 효과를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 모델링의 형태, 모델링의 특성, 모델링이 정체성에 미친 영향을 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 체육 교사교육자 모델링의 유형은 체육교사로서의 겉모습 모델링, 체육교사로서의 마음자세 모델링, 체육교사로서의 지식 모델링, 체육교사로서의 교수법 모델링으로 범주화할 수 있었다. 둘째, 체육 교사교육자 모델링의 특성은 머리가 아닌 가슴으로 받아들이는 모델링, 가르치기 어려운 것을 가능하게 하는 모델링, 체육 교사교육자의 성장 원동력이 되는 모델링, 다양한 내용을 통합적으로 가르치는 모델링, 이론․실천․반성의 뒷받침이 필요한 모델링으로 범주화 되었다. 셋째, 모델링은 예비교사들의 정체성이 운동선수에서 전인교육자로, 고정적인 동상에서 역동적인 배우로, 이끄는 사람에서 밀어주는 사람으로 발달하는데 도움을 준 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

Modeling is the practice of intentionally teaching for promoting learner's learning. While teacher educator is a good example to pre-service teachers, there is little systematic research about the practice of modeling of teacher educator (Grossman, 2005; Lunenberg, Korthagen, & Swennen, 2007). The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of teacher educator's modeling on elementary physical education teacher's identity. Eight participants were selected from students who were enrolled in an elementary PE methods course in a university located in Seoul. Data were collected from descriptive survey, reflective writing, field note and interviews. Data were analyzed inductively, and triangulation and member check were used for enhancing the trustworthiness of data. Findings revealed that modeling was categorized as: (a) explicit modeling, (b) implicit modeling, (c) knowledge modeling, (d) PCK modeling. These modeling affected not only pre-service teachers but also teacher educator. And teacher educator can teach many difficult themes at the same time through modeling. Modeling was turned out to be helpful for pre-service teachers' identity development: (a) from an athlete to a holistic education practitioner, (b) a fixed bronze statue to a flexible actor, (c) from a pilot to a facilitator. Findings showed that a methods course designed with modeling can be helpful for developing identity for elementary pre-service teachers who teach PE.
