Abstract
Important facilities and equipment need to operate spare ones in order to provide reliability or availability in an event of unexpected situations. We call these auxiliary facilities or equipment as Maintenance Float (M/F), and especially at military where reliability and availability are crucial, securing of M/F for every important equipment is a must. However, securing M/F entails an increase in defense budget, and this is why the military has to make decisions on optimal spare level at which the military can earn maximum effects with minimum cost. Meanwhile, pooling is an effective method that can reduce inefficiency which can be caused by volatility, because by sharing uncertainties and volatility, it offsets various uncertainties. In this paper, we aim to provide a model, which is developed on a queuing model, in order to help the military aviation unit decide on optimal M/F volume level. In addition, based on the model, we calculate the difference in the number of appropriate M/F units with a pooling, and without a pooling. And, we believe this will present an optimal level of M/F units for the military aviation unit, as well as reduction effects in the number of M/F unit, with the pooling system in place.
