Abstract

This research investigates the effects of consumers' service experience (satisfied vs. dissatisfied) and variety-seeking tendency (high vs. low) on consumers' possibility of using accumulated (vs. immediate) reward program. This study predicts satisfied consumers would more use the accumulated reward program than dissatisfied consumers. This study also expects the interaction effect of consumers' service experience and variety-seeking tendency. The result shows that satisfied consumers are more likely to take advantage of the accumulated reward program (of higher values) than dissatisfied consumers. The interaction effect of consumers' service experience and variety-seeking tendency is also found. When service experience is dissatisfied, the low variety-seeking consumers prefer the immediate reward program to the accumulated reward program. However, when service experience is satisfied, the low variety-seeking consumers prefer the accumulated reward program (of higher values) to the immediate reward program relatively. But there is no significant difference in consumers' possibility of using accumulated (vs. immediate) reward program between satisfied and dissatisfied service condition for the high variety-seeking consumers. This research suggests that managers take account for customers’ satisfaction and variety-seeking tendency when they decide the timing of rewards to make customers’ next purchase.
