서울지역 소득불평등과 박탈이 자원봉사참여에 미치는 영향에 관한 다층분석

The Impact of Income Inequality and Deprivation on Volunteering across Districts in Seoul: A Multi-level Analysis

초록

본 연구는 자원봉사참여에 미치는 다양한 개인 및 지역수준의 영향요인 가운데 특히 지역수준에서 측정된 소득불평등도와 박탈이 개인수준에서 측정된 자원봉사참여가능성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 분석방법으로는 다층분석, 구체적으로 일반화선형혼합모형 추정방식을 사용하였다. 분석자료는 개인수준의 경우 서울시 25개 행정자치구 44,185명을 대상으로 실시된 2013년 서울서베이 데이터를 활용하였고, 지역수준의 경우 2010년 서울복지패널 데이터를 활용하였다. 분석결과, 성별, 연령, 소득, 학력 등을 포함하는 개인수준의 요인들을 통제하였을 때 지역의 소득불평등도와 빈곤율은 서울시 개별주민의 자원봉사참여가능성에 유의미하게 부정적인 영향을 미쳤고, 이와 대조적으로 지역의 범죄율과 주거불안정성은 자원봉사참여가능성에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 자원봉사참여율을 높일 수 있는 방안 및 후속연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

Abstract

We explore the individual- and municipality-level predictors of volunteering in Seoul, Korea, and in particular, how changes in income inequality and deprivation measured at the municipality level affect the volunteer rate measured at the individual level. We use multi-level modelling, specifically, generalized linear mixed model, to analyse representative data on 44,185 individuals in 25 municipalities in Seoul, merged with census data containing various municipality-level measures. Our findings suggest that controlling for individual-level predictors such as gender, age, income, and education, the income inequality and the poverty rate of a municipality are significantly negatively related to the volunteer rate, whereas municipality-level predictors such as the crime rate and the residential instability are not. Based on the findings, we provide the implications for future research and practical applications.
