오케스트라 기반 문화예술교육 참여 아동의 확장학습과정에 관한 질적 연구: 꿈의 오케스트라를 중심으로

이 연구는 오케스트라 기반 문화예술교육에 참여한 아동의 변화를 공동체 구성원과 상호작용하며 발생한 집단적차원의 확장학습(Expansive Learning)으로 바라보고, 그 과정과 매개요소를 탐색하고자 수행된 질적 연구다. 자료수집을위해 꿈의 오케스트라를 진행하고 있는 B기관에 격주에 한 번씩 방문하여 참여관찰을 수행했으며 참여 아동(n=7)을대상으로 1년 이상의 기간을 두고 총 3회의 면접조사를 진행했다. 엥게스트롬(Engeström)의 확장학습이론을 적용하여분석한 이 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 활동 주체인 참여 아동에게 악기와 새로운 친구와의 만남은 오케스트라 활동에 의미를 부여하는 매개요소로서주요한 도구로 기능한다. 부모의 권유로 오케스트라를 시작했지만, 활동이 축적되어가며 악기와 음악은 자신의 일상이되고 또래 관계를 형성하며 안전한 쉼터로 의미가 변화함이 분석되었다. 둘째, 참여 아동과 오케스트라 공동체를매개하는 규칙으로는 스스로 연습하기, 서로 알려주기, 틀려도 기다려주기가 도출되었다. 그리고 오케스트라 활동을지속하며 다양한 암묵적·공식적 규칙을 만들고 지키기 위한 아동의 노력과 변화는 내적 모순과 갈등을 승화시킨결과라 할 수 있다. 셋째, 강사와 아동집단, 오케스트라 활동을 매개하는 분업체계는 수석 제도와 위계적이지 않은교육강사와 아동 관계가 도출되었다. 활동 기간이 점차 길어질수록 위계적이지 않은 분위기에서 아동과 강사 사이의유대감과 친밀감을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이는 참여 아동의 내적 모순과 갈등을 중재하는 주요한 지점으로 분석되었다. 오케스트라교육 사례에 확장학습이론을 적용하여 아동과 단원공동체, 강사집단의 상호작용을 통해 변화과정을탐구한 이 연구는 예술의 사회적 영향 발현에 대한 구조적 이해를 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 문화예술교육 참여자의긍정적 변화는 공동체 내‧외부의 다양한 환경변화에 대응하는 과정에서 발전하는 상호작용의 결과임을 방증한다.
Abstract
This qualitative study aims to understand the mediators of children‘s learning process within orchestra activities by looking at the procedure as an expansive learning process with diverse members of its community. To collect the data, the site for the research were visited every other week for participatory observation and nonformal interviews. Formal interviews were conducted with participating children (n=7) three times during a year. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, musical instrument and meeting with new friends functioned as major mediators, so called tools to give new meaning to children’s orchestra activities. As the activities accumulated, the orchestra and music became part of their daily lives, and functioned as a safe shelter. Second, new rules as mediators in children and the orchestra community played major roles for self-practicing, instructing each other (peer teaching), and waiting for other pupils who needs more time to play correctly. Third, as for the division of labor that mediates the activities of music instructors and children's groups the senior-player’s system and non-hierarchical relationship were derived for negotiating inner dilemma and conflicts. As the activity gradually developed, the bond and intimacy between the children and the instructor grew stronger and non-hierarchical atmosphere functioned as a major mediator to deal with the inner dilemma and conflict of the children. To summarize, the result of this study, which explores the process of change through the interaction of children, member communities, and instructor groups by applying expansive learning theory to the case of orchestra education, is expected to provide some structural understanding of the social impacts of the arts. As well, it proves the positive changes of arts education participants are initiated from its interactions among inside and outside their learning community.
