Abstract
This study aims to analyze the multidimensional concept of teacher responsibility in the contemporary educational environment and to develop a reliable scale for its measurement. As the role of teachers expands beyond academic achievement to include supporting students' socio-emotional development, fostering collaboration within the educational community, managing administrative tasks, and fulfilling social responsibilities, there is a growing need to refine and evaluate the concept of teacher responsibility. To address this, the study conducted a comprehensive review of previous research and identified the key dimensions of teacher responsibility. Based on this theoretical framework, a teacher responsibility scale was developed and validated through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The final scale consists of 31 items across six subdomains: supporting students’ socio-emotional development, supporting students’ academic achievement, performing administrative duties, communication and collaboration, teachers’ social responsibility, and teachers’ self-responsibility. To verify the reliability and validity of the scale, a nationwide survey was conducted among primary and secondary school teachers in South Korea. The results indicate that the scale exhibits high reliability and validity, making it a valuable tool for systematically assessing teachers' roles and responsibilities. This study contributes to teacher education and policy development by providing a structured framework for evaluating teacher responsibility. Future research should integrate longitudinal and qualitative approaches to further explore the practical implications of teacher responsibility in educational settings.
