Abstract
This study examined the factors influencing teachers' consideration of leaving the profession and proposed directions for policies that protect educational activities. Using data from 5,893 elementary, middle, and high school teachers who participated in the 2024 "Gyeonggi Province School Members' Human Rights Survey," the analysis was grounded in the job demands–resources model. Descriptive statistics were first used to assess teachers’ satisfaction, intention to leave, and perceptions of teacher authority. The dependent variable, "Have you ever seriously considered leaving the profession this year (2024)?" was analyzed using LASSO regression to identify influencing factors. The results showed that while most respondents expressed overall satisfaction with their profession, those who felt socially respected as teachers were the least likely to do so. Teachers with 5–10 years of experience were the most likely to report having considered leaving the profession and exhibited the most negative perceptions of teacher efficacy and job satisfaction. Further analysis categorized key predictors into job demands and job resources. Job demands included serious violations of teachers' rights (e.g., obstruction of official duties, assault, and threats), undue interference in educational activities, excessive administrative workload, and coercion to perform non-legally mandated tasks. Job resources included satisfaction with the teaching profession and positive perceptions of the current school and occupation. Additional background variables, such as employment status, school type, and teaching experience, also influenced intention to leave. Finally, policy implications derived from the key findings are discussed.
