Abstract

The present study tried to interpret and re-evaluate the scientific backgrounds of moral education in the 2007 revised moral education curriculum. And then, in this article ethics and moral psychology as the scientific backgrounds of moral education were investigated how to contribute substantially to moral education respectively and how to enhance the constructive relationships for elementary and secondary moral education. At first, in terms of the 2007 revised moral education curriculum I took up the position that "the interdisciplinary approach among several academic fields for students' ethical lives" is more appropriate than multidisciplinary approach mainly focusing on the ethical approach. And then, I suggested that the urgent research task in the field of ethics as a scientific background of moral education is to conduct research which tries to reorganize systematically educational contents in accordance with the essence and purpose of moral education. Additionally, I proposed that we make a new framework of psychological research in the context of moral education, and we need to conduct further studies, including "roles of moral psychology as a scientific background in moral education" and the establishment of educational objectives of moral education in accordance with the characteristics of students' moral development". Finally, I suggested that ethics and moral psychology make closer, complementary, and hand-in-hand relationships for the improvement of the nature, objectives, contents, and teaching methods in moral education.
