시민사회 리더십 육성을 위한 대학 의사소통교육의 방향과 내용

대학이라는 학문공동체에서 학생들은 다양한 교수학습과정을 경험하면서 자신의 직업적인 역량을 키움과 동시에 사회적 존재로서 자신의 정체성을 형성하게 된다. 사회 문제에 대해 진지하게 생각하고 공동체의 과제를 해결하기 위해 책임감 있는 행동을 선택할 수 있는 성숙한 시민의 자세를 배우는 것이다. 본 연구는 구미대학에서 보편화된 글쓰기 교육이 우리 사회의 합리적인 문제해결을 위해 필요한 시민능력과 리더십 역량을 키워주는 교육적 의미를 지니고 있다는 점에 주목하여, 현재 여러 대학에서 진행하고 있는 의사소통교육이 한국사회의 심의민주주의를 구축하기 위해 어떤 방향과 내용을 담보해야 하는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 바탕으로 의사소통교육은 학생들에게 대학인으로서 학문의 기초적 능력을 익히고 동시에 시민사회의 리더로서의 보편적인 인문학적 소양을 갖추는데 있어 중요한 함의를 지니고 있다는 점을 지적하였다. 특히 대학에서의 글쓰기교육은 학생들이 어떻게 사는 길이 인간답게 당당하게 사는 길인가를 스스로 ‘사고’하고, 의미 있고 중요한 ‘질문’들을 제기하며, 자신의 생각을 체계적으로 ‘표현’할 수 있는 의사소통능력을 키워주는데 본질적인 목적을 갖고 있다고 할 것이다. 교육받은 사람으로서 학생들이 사회적인 책임을 의식하고 공동체의 선을 위한 긍정적인 변화를 주도해 갈 수 있는 역량을 키워주기 위해 토대가 되는 의사소통교육이 활성화되어야 하고, 대학 교육이 학생들에게 전문적인 능력과 기술을 가르치는 것 못지않게 우리 사회의 문제를 인식하고 다양한 각도에서 해석하며 종합적으로 판단할 수 있는 성찰 능력을 갖추도록 하는 것이 중요하다는 점을 강조하였다. 이는 다양한 독서활동과 열린 대화와 토론의 경험, 글쓰기 과정을 통해 키워질 수 있기에, 결론적으로 한국 대학사회가 나아가야 할 교육의 올바른 길은 학생들이 스스로의 삶을 주체적으로 이끌어가고 공동체에 기여할 수 있는 시민적 능력과 리더십을 키워주는 의사소통교육의 다양한 기회를 제공하는 것에서 찾아질 수 있음을 언급하였다.
Abstract
Students can cultivate their professional ability and form social identity through various learning in university. With the help of that, students can learn the matured citizenship which can make students solve the social task and deliberate its problem. This study noticed that the prevailing Writing Education in Western universities has enhanced their students' citizenship and leadership capabilities, and this education could also help Korean students solve our society's problem. Moreover, this study took a look at each university's communication program to build a democracy of Korean society, verifying the right direction and contents of it. Based on the research, this study identified the communication program for students is very important to cultivate their ability for basic academic knowledge as university students and for liberal educational capabilities as civil society leaders. Especially, the writing education in university has essential goal of cultivating students' communication ability: it facilitate them to think what is the right way to live as a human, raise the meaningful and crucial questions, and express their thinking systematically. This study emphasized that the communication program must be activated as a cornerstone of building up students' capability and responsibility, which can lead the positive change of community. Moreover, it pointed out that the academic programs in university have to educate professional skills to students as well as insight to them to systematically realize and judge social problems with various points of view. This kind of ability can be enhanced by reading various types of books, communication and discussion with others, and writing program in university. Therefore, this study identified the right direction of future movement of Korean universities' academic education programs is to offer students various communication programs to make them actively lead their life, and contribute them to this society with their good citizenship and leadership capability.
