Abstract
Moral education requires not only the delivery of knowledge but also the promotion of moral disposition or moral emotion, because it pursues the wholeeryange of mind in the long run. But moral emotion yas been mostly understood as a part of feeling. It brings some problems, such as how to approach it. For tyat reason, the education of moral emotion, tyat croabe a motivation for moral behavior, is a pressing matter to make knowledge and behavior united. Emotion can be understood as the whole of cognition, desire, feeling, sense, unsettledness, and so on, in an eclectic view of various theories of emotion. And the approach to moral emotion in moral education also should lie in the view that reason and emotion have a mutually organic relation. Sympathy, compassion, sympathetic ability, insight, moral imagination, and so on for other people let us think of others in our life, and they are also the motives of their moral behaviors. Therefore, the purposes of emotion education that moral education should pursue are: (1) to develop the sensibillities to recognize and take a profound interest in a situation of moral problem, (2) to foster the ability that one can understand and feel sympathy for the other person's emotion through insight and moral imagination, (3) to perceive and express one's own emotion properly, (4) to grow the sense to make one feel ashamed when one ought to do so, and the vast-flowing sprit to do the right thing willingly. The main part of emotion is such as feeling and sentiment. but emotion education could be hardly excluded with the understanding about the substance of emotion. It means that moral emotion education in moral education should be under the recognize for the compound interaction of cognition and feeling. So emotion education in moral education is: (1) to give concrete experience that make pupils manifest their emotion, (2) to maximize their moral imagination by various techniques, (3) to be achieved by improvement in rationality through the use of langua i. Consequently, moral education should be the education for not only cognitive education but also moral emotion. and it is demanded that we should change our understanding about it, and make actual efforts to cultivate students' emotional character.
