Abstract

Interaction and self-expression via social media have become a lived norm among youngsters in the digital era. The novelty and pervasiveness of social media are raising a number of new and unique socio-moral issues, while it is promoting various human cooperation and interactions. However, in the academic world of moral education, social media has not been given an important status. In particular, the theoretical and practical analysis of social media's impact on a student's life, how to effectively utilize social media in moral education, and the discussion of new directions and tasks of moral education in the age of social media have failed to be a major topic, to the extent that it is treated very superficial in the curriculum of mora education as a sub-content element of cyber ethics and/or information & communication ethics. In particular, most moral education researchers overlooked a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the impact of social media on a student's life from the point of view of moral education. This paper aims to objectively analyze the impact of social media on a student's life on the basis of scientific research results, and emphasize the importance of digital citizenship as a new vocabulary that moral education should value in the age of social media.
