Abstract

In this article, I did analyze the positive and negative effects of social media use on the mental health of students in a balanced way, and propose the basic strategies for promoting the mental health of students in moral education with regard to social media. Social media's positive factors for students' mental health are combined with social ties and sense of belonging, reduced stress, self-education, self-esteem, and civic engagement. On the other hand, social media's negative factors on mental health are combined with stress and anxiety, depression, suicide rates, sleep patterns, and social media addiction. I think that the way students use social media determines its effectiveness. Meanwhile, in relation to basic strategies for mental health education in moral education, I presented cultivating social media literacy, developing mental health literacy, and utilizing social media as facilitating tools for learning experiences.
