본 연구는 노인 돌봄의 현장에서 요양보호사들이 경험하는 죽음의 의미와 인식을 탐색하였다. 연구 참여자는 대전시에 소재한 노인요양병원에 근무하는 요양보호사 10명을 대상으로 개별면담을 실시하였다. 연구자는 요양보호사가 경험하는 죽음에 대한 의미나 인식을 분석하기 위해 질적 연구 분석 프로그램인 Nvivo 11을 사용하여 면담 자료를 분석하였다. Giorgi(2004: 240)의 현상학적 연구방법으로 전사된 자료를 전체 인식하기, 의미단위로 분류하기, 학문적 용어로 변용하기, 변용된 의미개념을 구조로 통합하기 순으로 분석하였다(신경림 외, 2004). 본 연구는 요양보호사가 경험하는 죽음에 대한 인식을 직업에 대한 만족도, 직업으로서 요양보호사에 대한 처우, 죽음을 처음 직면했을 때, 죽음에 대한 인식, 자신의 죽음에 대한 바람, 죽음에 대한 교육의 필요성, 바람직한 죽음 등을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 요양보호사의 바람직한 죽음에 대한 이해와 올바른 노인 돌봄 태도를 가질 수 있도록 돕고 좋은 죽음에 대한 인식과 태도를 확립하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate what the perception and meaning of death experienced by nursing care workers in the field of caring for the elderly is. Participants in the study conducted individual interviews with 10 nursing care workers working in geriatric hospital located in Daejeon. This study analyzed interview data to analyze the meaning and the perception of death experienced by a nursing caregiver using a qualitative research program, Nvivo 11 with the Giorgi (2004: 245) phenomenological method. It was analyzed in the following process: understanding the content as a whole, classifying into semantic units, transforming into academic terms, and integrating the changed semantic concepts into structures (Shin et al., 2004). In this study, there were derived from the seven categories in the perception of death experienced by the nursing caregivers which are: satisfaction with the job, improvement of labor conditions for care working as a job, perception of death when facing death for the first time, a desire for one’s own death, necessity of pre-post education about death and desirable death. The study was to help the understanding of the desirable and positive deaths of care providers in nursing homes and to help them having the right attitude to care for the elderly.
