성과생식의 통제 : '낙태'에 관한 사회윤리적ㆍ통합적 접근

낙태는 인류역사 이래로 가장 오래된 생명윤리 주제 중 하나였으며 암묵적으로는 동서고금을 막론하고 성과 생식을 통제하는 방법으로써 기능해 왔다. 본 논문은 지금까지의 낙태와 피임에 대한 접근이 다분히 일면적 ― 윤리적ㆍ종교적ㆍ법률적 ― 접근이었음을 지적하고, 맥락적ㆍ통합적ㆍ총체적 ― 경제적ㆍ정치적ㆍ인구통계학적ㆍ종교적ㆍ성적ㆍ사회 문화적 맥락 ― 으로 접근하여 낙태문제의 본질에 더 가까이 다가가려는데 목적이 있다.이를 위해 우선 낙태논의의 역사적 발전과정 ― 고대 그리스 로마시대의 정치경제적 이슈였던 낙태와 피임문제가 중세와 기독교 교회 중심의 종교적ㆍ윤리적 이슈로, 그리고 현대에 들어서 낙태문제가 권리 이론으로 발전하는데 영향을 준 페미니즘과 공리주의 ― 에 대해 살피고 있다. 또한 성격이 전혀 다른 두 케이스 즉, 성과 생식에 대한 억압적 정책으로 대표되는 군국주의 일본의 출생증강정책과, 자유주의 국가인 미국에서 낙태가 불법화되는 과정 ― 사회윤리적ㆍ정치적ㆍ종교적 요인 ― 을 통해서 낙태문제에 관한 일면적 접근이 오히려 문제의 본질을 은폐 또는 악화시키고 있음을 밝히고 있다.
Abstract
Since the human history, an abortion has been one of the longest life ethics theme, and, in all ages and countries, controlled sex and reproduction implicitly. This paper aims to have an close access to the essence of abortion problems by pointing out that the approach to an abortion and contraception has been unilateral - ethical or legal - up to now, and by studying it complexly and synthetically - economicallyㆍpoliticallyㆍdemographicallyㆍsociallyㆍreligiouslyㆍculturally. To do that, this paper examines the historical progress of abortion discussion - abortion and contraception problems which were political and economical issues in the ancient Greece and Rome period and which were religious and ethical issues centering around a church in the Middle Ages, and feminism and utilitarianism which, modern times, affected abortion problems being developed into a theory of right . In addition, it discloses that an unilateral access to abortion problems tends to hide or aggravate the essence of the problems through looking at Japanese child birth encouragement policy under militarism, and the process in which an abortion becomes illegal in America, a typical liberalism state, through social and ethicalㆍpoliticalㆍreligious element.
