사이버 불링에 대한 윤리교육의 대응

총기와 약물 문제가 학교의 안전을 심각하게 위협했던 미국에 비해 볼 때, 한국의 학교 문화는 상대적으로 안전한 편이었다. 그러나 학교 안전에 대한 위협이 직접적이고 물리적인 것으로부터 간접적이고 정신적인 것으로 변화되는 추세에 따라 우리 사회에서도 집단 따돌림을 비롯한 불링에 대한 대책이 필요해지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 인터넷과 정보통신기술을 매개로 하여 이루어지는 새로운 위협의 하나인 사이버 불링의 개념과 유형을 구분한 후, 그에 대한 교육적 대응책의 장단점을 검토하고자 한다. 특히 날이 갈수록 폐해의 정도가 심각해지고 광범위하게 확산되고 있는 사이버 불링 문제에 대해 근본적 해결책의 가능성을 찾아 보고자 했다. 문제가 있음을 인정한 후에 상대방에 대한 공감과 배려의 능력을 기르고, 자기자신에 대한 자존감을 확립한다는 3단계의 절차를 강조하는 윤리교육적 대응을 하나의 접근법으로 제시하였다.
Abstract
Young people live in a rapidly changing universe dominated by information technologies. Parents and educators need to become familiar with new technologies and media so that they can adequately supervise young people's use of them. As is true of any form of communication, electronic media can be abused. Cyberbullying is an important concern for teachers and parents. Estimates of the prevalence of cyberbullying vary. One credible estimate is that 9% of youth ages 9-17 who use the internet are cyberbullied each year in U.S.. Another is that about 13% of preteens and teenagers occasionally behave aggressively in online cyber space. The distance and potential anonymity of cyber space communication may increase its potential to be used for bullying. The likelihood of students being cyberbullied increases as they spend more time online and as they cyberbully others. A victim is more likely to experience stress from online bullying if he or she is younger than the perpetrator, is asked to send a digitized photo of their own, or is also at risk of physical confrontation with the bully. Some online confrontations have led to verbal and physical confrontations at school. A school's anti-bullying policy and computer use policy should both prohibit cyberbullying. Adults should closely monitor the internet use of younger's, and teach them how to behave safely and responsibly while they are in cyber space. Teachers should make it clear to them that misconduct online is no more acceptable than misbehavior in the face-to-face world. Schools should encourage parents to be part of this efforts. The whole system of educational processes should be implemented through 3 steps approach. First step, everyone have to admit the extent of problem. Second step, awareness sharing is important. Third step is implementation of educational and preventive programs.
