Abstract
Sharon Street Poses an epistemological challenge to moral realism, which presupposes objective moral truths. She is based here on the empirical assumption that evolutional forces have played a tremendous role in shaping the content of moral beliefs. If we take that there is no relationship between moral truths and moral beliefs, we cannot avoid the far-fetched skeptical result that would require a fluke of luck that’s extremely unlikely. Instead, taking that there is some relationship between moral truths and moral beliefs, and explaining that our moral beliefs track objective moral truths, is a scientifically unacceptable method of explanation. However, Street’s Darwinian Dilemma seems to have ruled out the possibility of autonomous reasoning. Because she only focused on the evolutionary influence of the disposition to shape our beliefs. If our capacity to grasp objective moral truths could be a by-product of some other evolved capacity, a new option would be possible to escape the Darwinian Dilemma.
