Abstract
This research aims to not only measure the level of local elderly service but analyze spatial pattern between local elderly service and elderly population ratio by utilizing GIS techniques. According to results, regions with high percentage of elderly population are mainly located in rural counties of Jeolla and Gyeongsang. Whereas, elderly service tends to be high in rural areas of Gyeonggi, Kangwon, and Jeolla, but the northern rural areas of Gyeongsang are struggling with the lowest level of elderly service. Thus, the result confirmed spatial mismatch between policy needs and service supply for local elder service. This paper also found there is positive spatial autocorrelation for both elderly population ratio and elderly service, so these two variables are likely to have similar values like adjacent neighboring areas. In addition, many rural areas in Jeolla, Gyeonggi, and Kangwon are hotspot areas clustering with neighbors of similar high level of elderly service. Besides, many urban areas in Busan, Ulsan, and Seoul appear to be coldspot areas clustering with neighbors of similar low level of elderly service.
